LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has directed textbook review committees to ensure error-free and high-quality publications, warning that delays or mistakes in textbooks will not be tolerated.

Chairing a meeting of the committees, the minister said errors in curriculum can harm future generations and must be eliminated.

He instructed that all textbooks undergo timely review and stressed that no excuses for delays will be accepted.

For the first time, teachers from both the School and Higher Education Departments have been prioritised in the review process.

Each book will also be counter-reviewed, and reviewers will be required to submit a certification to the department confirming accuracy.

Mr Hayat highlighted that the government has ended the practice of taking shares from textbook bidding and abolished the monopoly of paper mills, resulting in reduced costs of textbooks.

He further said that the Nawaz Sharif Centre of Excellence has introduced a successful model of Early Childhood Education.

“The quality of the centre speaks for itself,” he remarked, noting that 850 children are currently on the waiting list, including children of prominent businessmen and six MPAs.

The minister added that the syllabus is being aligned with modern standards to better prepare students for future challenges.
