KHYBER: A commander affiliated with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed by a newly formed armed Lashkar in Tirah, local sources said.

They said that Bar Qambarkhel-backed tribal Lashkar Tanzeem Janudul Khyber launched an attack on TTP commander Abu Bakar’s hideout in Bar Bagh locality late on Wednesday night.

Sources said that the TTP commander was killed while his hideout was destroyed.

The newly-formed armed Lashkar also claimed to have taken control of Bar Bagh, which was so far under the control of TTP men.

The Janudul Khyber Lashkar was formed by Bar Qambarkhel tribe of Tirah on May 24 with its armed activists concealing their identity. It was formed three days after the execution of three young Tirah residents on charges of spying.

Bar Qambarkhel elders who had formed the Lashkar had warned local residents to stay away from all terrorist groups in the valley and had also announced that they had a list of those who were harbouring such elements in their houses whom they said would be executed if they failed to dissociate themselves from the outlawed terrorist group.

Meanwhile, three persons were killed, with two brothers among them and two more injured in a firing incident between rival families in Jamrud on Thursday.

Police said the incident occurred in Ghundi, Sikandarkhel locality, where armed men of rival families clashed with each other over share in irrigation water for their farms.

They said that Fazal Mohammad and Mohammad Wali, sons of Yar Mohammad, along with their cousin Zeer Ahmad were killed on the spot while a woman and another man from the rival group sustained injuries.

Police said that they have registered a case against the culprits and were conducting raids to arrest them.
