GWADAR: Two suspected militants were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Turbat, the district headquarters of Kech district, police said.

Officials said armed men riding motorcycles opened fire at a Frontier Corps post in Turbat in the early hours of Saturday. As security personnel deployed at the post retaliated, an exchange of fire ensued. As the attackers attempted to flee, the security personnel chased them. The security forces finally managed to surround the militants in the Sangani Sar area and as the latter attempted to flee by opening fire at the law enforcers, they were gunned down, Kech Senior Superintendent of Police Zohaib Mohsin said.

He said the bodies were later shifted to Turbat hospital. However, the identity of the slain men could not be ascertained.

In Nasirabad, a hand grenade was hurled at a house, leaving women and children injured, police said.

A senior police officer Zahoor Ahmed said that the attackers riding a motorcycle threw a grenade at the house in Nasirabad, some 40km from Turbat. In the attack, four people including women were injured. They were shifted to hospital, where they were identified as Meeral Qasim, Ayesha Shabbir, Fatima Shabbir and Shahzad Shabbir.

Later, a search operation was initiated in the area to trace out the attackers, police said.
