RAWALPINDI: Seven police officials, including an inspector, were arrested after the registration of an FIR against them on corruption charges on Thursday.

A police spokesman said after a video of the alleged corruption of the officials in the judicial complex came to light, City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice and ordered the immediate arrest of the personnel and the registration of a case against them.

He said Inspector Manzoor, Sub-Inspector Wilayat and police personnel Sohail, Saqlain, Saeed, Tanveer and Hasnain had been arrested and a case registered against them. The officials were also suspended and a charge-sheet was issued to them.

The CPO said those who damage the image of the department would be held accountable.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi police, Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence held a mock exercise at the Police Lines Headquarters keeping in view the country’s security situation.

The aim of the mock exercise was to optimise preparedness for coordinated and immediate response in any emergency situation, the police spokesman said.

Police, Elite Force, Rescue 1122, Bomb Disposal Squad and Civil Defence personnel participated in the mock exercise.

Best training and preparation to deal with any emergency situation are the basic principles of Punjab police, said CPO Hamdani, adding the Rawalpindi police were always ready to deal with any emergency situation.
