RAHIM YAR KHAN: Traffic remained suspended for an hour when a quarrel erupted between transport owners and toll plaza staff at Wallana toll collection point on national highway near Sanjarpur, some 55 kms from here, on Monday.

Reports said the conflict began when toll plaza staff demanded increased tax from several buses and wagons. When questioned about the sudden hike, staff members allegedly assaulted some drivers and passengers.

Hafiz Abdul Razzaq, a prominent businessman and leader of the Azaad Ittehaad Group of the Rahim Yar Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RYKCCI), attempted to mediate the situation but was reportedly slapped during the scuffle. Razzaq also alleged that toll plaza staff hurled bricks at his vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said such quarrels between toll staff and transporters have become a routine. Following the incident, police arrived at the scene and recorded statements from both parties. The altercation led to the blockage of the highway, with trucks, buses, trailers, and cars stuck for nearly an hour.

No toll plaza staff member was available to comment on the matter.
