KARACHI: A teenage boy was shot dead and his cousin wounded by robbers in Korangi, police said on Saturday.

They said that the incident took place late on Friday night. The deceased was identified as 17-year-old Saqib Mukhtiar and the wounded as 19-year-old Ehtesham Fazal.

Zaman Town SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi told Dawn that two muggers, riding a motorbike, held Mukhtiar at gunpoint and demanded his cell phone outside his home near Owais Karni Masjid, Korangi 5½.

He said that as he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him. In the meantime, Fazal came out of the home after hearing the gunshots and raised alarm. Seeing that, the robbers also shot him and rode away.

Both the teenagers sustained critical bullet wounds and were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared Mukhtiar dead on arrival.

The officer said investigators had got some clues about the culprits and concerted efforts were underway to arrest them.
