KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by robbers in Korangi on Wednesday morning, police and rescuers said.

Zaman Town SHO Ateeq Rehman said 22-year-old Sohaib Javed was shot and killed at his medical store in Korangi No 6.

The police said that at around 12:30am two armed men on a motorcycle arrived at Sohaib’s medical store for robbery. However, area people sensed danger and raised alarm to which one of the muggers opened fire, snatched cash from Sohaib and rode away with his accomplice.

Sohaib suffered a critical bullet wound and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The body was handed over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.

A case has been registered against two robbers on the complaint of victim’s father Javed Husain under Sections 302(premeditated murder), 397 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Wounded guard dies

A private security guard, who was shot and wounded by robbers on March 17 in Korangi, died at a local hospital during treatment, police said.

On Monday, a trader, accompanied by security guard Amir Ahmed, 35, and two others, was driving towards a bank to deposit Rs2.5 million when three armed men, also travelling in a car, intercepted their vehicle, shot the guard, snatched the cash and fled.

The guard suffered a bullet wound in the head and was shifted to the JPMC, where he died on Tuesday night.
