LAKKI MARWAT: A schoolteacher was kidnapped in the Miryan area of Bannu district on Wednesday, the police said.

An official said they received information about the incident and were investigating the matter. “We are trying to locate the whereabouts of the teacher,” he added.

According to local elders, Farmanullah was bundled into a vehicle by unidentified armed men while he was going to school in Narmikhel area on a motorcycle.

They said the kidnapped teacher had no enmity with anyone in the area.

It was also learnt that the teacher would also work as a quack to provide medical treatment to local people.

Elders of Nurar area asked the local administration and police to ensure safe recovery of the abducted teacher within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the police tightened security arrangements for the ongoing five-day anti-polio drive in Bannu district as regional police chief Imran Shahid carried out field visits to check deployment of cops and presence of policemen with vaccinators.

Mr Shahid spent the busy day on Wednesday as he interacted with polio workers, subordinate police officials and health experts to get their viewpoint about the problems arising during the immunisation campaign.
