TAXILA: The Attock district administration banned bathing and swimming in rivers and canals across the district on Sunday to avert any untoward incidents during the Eid holidays.

The ban was imposed by Attock Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza through the imposition of section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

According to a handout issued by the district information office, the district administration with the approval of the Punjab Home Department, banned swimming and bathing at picnic spots near River Indus, Ghazi Barotha Hydropower (GBHP) channel and other canals. The order that came into effect instantly would remain enforced till April 12.

Rao Atif Raza while talking to newsmen said warning signs around dangerous spots, especially Attock Khurd Bridge and Ghazi Barotha water channel have been displayed to create public awareness.

He added that strict action would be taken without any discrimination against those who flout the ban.

“All SHOs concerned have been directed to take action against those found bathing or swimming at prohibited spots,” Rao Atif Raza said.

Meanwhile, the Wah Cantonment police on Sunday busted a two-member muggers’ gang and recovered looted booty from their possession.

A police spokesman said that acting on a tip-off, a police party led by station house officer Imran Afridi raided the gang’s alleged den and arrested its two members.

The arrested suspects were identified as Awais and Zargha.

The police spokesman said that during preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons have allegedly confessed to being involved in various criminal activities in the area.
