KOHAT: People of Kohat have demanded the conversion of three wildlife parks into mini zoos with the support of the oil and gas companies operating in the area.

The wildlife parks and game reserves include Tanda, Togh Mangalor and Kotal. The Tanda Wildlife Park was set up in 1991, Kotal Park in 1989 and Togh Mangalor Park in 2005.

Director wildlife Mr Samad said that setting up a major zoo required hefty funding for staff, doctors, medicines, food, cages, water ponds and importing non-native animals like lions, tigers, cheetahs and elephants.

He said that they had not received any project worth mentioning since 2005, and lions bought twice had died in the Togh Manglor Park.

He added the park was closed off by the KP wildlife department to breed rare and extinct animals, where there were Nilgai or Blue Bulls, Chinkara, gazelles, hog deer and urial.
