KARACHI: A three-day training on institutional strengthening and capacity building for local government officers associated with different towns of the city concluded here on Friday.
The training was organised by the World Bank-funded Competitive & Liveable City of Karachi (CLICK) project.
The training was an attempt to equip the officials with professional techniques for improving tax collection and revenue generation in areas under their control.
The different sessions of the programme were held at KMC building where officers of towns from Central and East districts of the city participated, said a statement.
The professional trainers informed the participants about the local government laws, accounts and finance rules and taxation.
“The training programme, which was launched in collaboration between CLICK and research and training organisation Smart Researchers, mainly focused on professional skills and capacity building for maintenance of funds of KMC and TMCs,” said the statement.
“The participants in the training learned as to how they could enhance tax collections in their domain and maintain smooth financial operation of their areas. A question and answer session helped the officials to address several misconceptions and confusion which hamper smooth and effective functioning of the TMCs.”
Those who participated in the training included officials from TMCs of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Jinnah Town, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town and Liaquatbad.
