DADU: Various cultural elements such as music, folk stories, melodies, poetry and customs collectively shape the attitudes of a society.
This was said by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Amanat Ali Jalbani at the Sindhi Folk Literature Conference organised by the varsity’s Sindhi department.
Prof Jalbani emphasised the importance of understanding a nation’s attitude and its way of life which forms the foundation of its culture.
The one-day conference was attended by the department’s faculty members including Dr Ameer Ali Shah, Dr Phallu Sunder Menghwar, Khalid Sahil Kerio and Umm-e-Hani Isani among others.
They stressed the need for collaborative efforts to promote and develop Sindhi language and literature.
The conference featured captivating storytelling sessions by esteemed individuals who presented diverse genres, including riddles and poems, showcasing the richness of the Sindhi language and culture.
Sughar (folk poet) Muhammad Mureed’s performance on Alghoza received a standing ovation, leaving the audience enthralled.
Prof ‘Biwas’ Bakhsh Ali Chandy and Ustad Alam Khan Kerio eloquently discussed the beauty, greatness, and significance of various folk literature genres, praising the contributions of Sindh’s folk poets.
The conference served as a testament to the enduring legacy of Sindhi folk literature and its vital role in preserving the cultural heritage of the region.
