SWABI: The residents of Swabi city staged a protest demonstration here on Thursday against the local government representatives for not completing a bridge on a stream.

The dilapidated bridge was demolished few months ago and work on new bridge was started soon but the failure of the contractor to build a causeway cut off Shalkhi area from the city.

The people of the area gathered in a local hujra and marched towards Swabi-Jehangira road. Holding banners and chanting slogans against the local government representatives, they said that they should tender resignation if they could not help citizens.

Addressing the protestors, Rohal Amin, who led the rally, said that the local government was responsible for the entire mess because people remained cut off from the district and no one was ready to help them.

The protesters dispersed peacefully when officials assured them that work on the bridge would be resumed soon.
