LARKANA: Speakers paid homage to seasoned poet Nawaz Ali Niaz Jaffery at a programme held to mark his 63rd death anniversary and said it would not be any exaggeration to declare that he was Saadi Shirazi, Hafiz and Firdausi of Sindhi poetry.

Akhtar Janveri, short story writer and former DIG, who presided over the literary reference organised by the Niaz Academy at Knowledge Centre here the other day, said that Jafferi was among the veteran poets who had a vast knowledge of the rules of versification, which manifested in the various genres of poetry he had composed.

He said that all languages of the world must be accorded due respect and love because they were signs of God.

Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaad, researcher, writer and poet, said that would be remembered for long for his tremendous contribution to literature.

Prof Mukhtiar Ahmed Samo, writer and founder of Knowledge Centre, said that Jafferi’s poetry was a confluence and conglomeration of conventional and modern traditions of versification in Sindhi language.

Dr Ahsan Danish, writer, said that Jaffery was so influential a poet that he was awarded with the title of Umdat-u-Shuara (finest of the poets). The fragrance of his poetry transcended the boundaries of times and it sounded fresh, he said.
