GUJRAT: The sanitary staff of Wazirabad Municipal Committee on Tuesday lifted heaps of garbage from the park and greenbelts along GT Road where the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) workers stayed on way to Islamabad for 11 days.

The TLP workers vacated the area late on Monday night after their leadership announced calling off the sit-in. However, Hamid Nasir Chattha park and its adjoining greenbelts had heaps of garbage after removal of the tents and camps by the organisers of the sit-in.

Sanitary workers of Wazirabad MC launched the cleanliness operation early in the morning on the directions of authorities and they washed the the green areas and jogging track after lifting the solid waste.

Locals appreciated the officials for timely cleanliness and said it should be followed by an anti-dengue and anti-mosquito spray in the area to restore the park and greenbelts.

An official of the municipality said the park was ready to host the visitors as per routine.

The National Highways Authority (NHA) is yet to bring the bridges at Chenab and Jhelum rivers to routine level as sand and mud have been lying along these bridges. Moreover, portions of the safety railings along the Jhelum bridges are yet to be rebuilt even after restoration of traffic around a week ago.

Similarly, packs of sand are lying along the pedestrian pathways on both sides of Jhelum and Chenab rivers. The NHA engineers have already filled the five trenches on both sides of the Chenab toll plaza and two trenches near Jhelum bridges.

The damaged portions of the road at these points may take time to get restored.
