LAHORE: The Punjab government has earned over Rs128bn by selling e-stamp papers in the tenure of the incumbent government.

In a statement on Tuesday, Senior Member Board of Revenue Babar Hayat Tarar said the e-stamping system had facilitated the people and keeping in view the effectiveness and utility of this system, stamp papers of less than Rs500 were also being sold. The e-stamp system helped the government overcome corruption as verification of e-stamp papers was also easy, he added.

Mr Tarar said 7,527 stamp vendors had been registered in 36 districts while 7,456 smart cards had been issued to them to ensure transparency.

The SMBR maintained the e-stamp system had helped in payment of correct stamp duty to the government by the people adding that the people could easily generate 32-A challan form from their homes through computers. Similarly, the Board of Revenue would also print stamp papers on plain papers with embedded security features to further facilitate the general public.
