LAHORE: As many as 2,340 graduates were given degrees in various disciplines at the 19th Annual Convocation of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) on Thursday.
Governor Chaudhry Sarwar, UMT President Ibrahim Hasan Murad, UMT Director General Abid H.K. Shirwani and members of the board of governors, board of trustees, faculty and graduating students attended the proceedings of the convocation.
As many as 1,517 bachelors, 296 masters, 509 MS/M.Phil and 18 PhD degrees were given to the students.
Furthermore, 34 Patron’s Gold Medals, 35 Rector’s Silver Medals, 17 Rector’s Academic Excellence Awards Gold Medal, 13 Certificates of Excellence, 5 Rector’s Research Recognition Award, 9 Special Medal Awards, 7 Rector’s Award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, 19 Extra Curricular Medal Awards, 4 Highest Number of Publications (Faculty), 4 Highest Impact Factor Publication (Faculty) were also given.
Mr Sarwar said the criterion of success was not measured by a person’s designation, wealth or the power but his contributions towards society. He advised the students to always respect their parents as they have worked hard in dire times to provide quality education to their children.
Mr Murad said they were just recovering from a global pandemic that had taken countless lives and they had provided uninterrupted services to the students. “We deployed every resource at our disposal to minimise the impact of this pandemic on the teaching and learning processes.”
VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY: The VU on Thursday honoured 57 students at the 11th convocation held for the graduates of Balochistan.
The graduating students of fall 2018 and spring 2019 were awarded degrees of BS, B.Ed., MA and MPhil.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri was chief guest of the convocation. VU Rector Naeem Tariq, faculty members and students were also present.
Mr Suri urged the students to transform the challenges into opportunities. “The federal government is trying its best to facilitate the students of Balochistan for higher education,” he said.
Later, Mr Suri and Rector Mr Tariq distributed degrees among the students.
