BAHAWALPUR: Raja Sohail Iftikhar and Muhammad Akram Baloch were elected president and general secretary of the high court bar association in Bahawalpur.

According to election commission’s announcement, Raja Sohail Iftikhar obtained 1,434 votes out of about 4,000 while his rival Mian Muhammad Azhar got 999 votes. General Secretary Akram Baloch secured 2,102 votes against his rival Abbas Khan who bagged 320 votes.

Malik Muhammad Naeem and Sardar Muhammad Khan Nutkani were declared elected senior vice president and joint secretary with 1,278 and 1,356 votes, respectively.

KILNS: The divisional administration has set Nov 30, 2020 as the new deadline for the transfer of kilns to zigzag technology.

Speaking to the owners of kilns through video-link on Saturday, the commissioner asked them to convert their kilns to the zigzag technology which was best suited. It would ensure a pollution-free atmosphere and save fuel by about 30pc besides increasing production of bricks.

At another meeting to review the ADP, the District Development Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Shozeb Saeed was told that out of 237 uplift projects in the district, 41 had been completed while work on the remaining projects was in progress.

MEDICAL STORE: The city assistant commissioner on Sunday sealed a medical store on Circular Road for allegedly selling face masks at higher prices to people.

The action was taken on the order of the deputy commissioner who received reports that the medical store owner was involved in selling mask at higher prices.
