SWABI: The residents of various areas have demanded of the district administration to launch anti-mosquito spray campaign to protect people from diseases, especially dengue fever.

The people in the district headquarters, Maneri, Shewa, Yar Hussain, Dagai, Tordher, Kunda, Saleem Khan, Manki, Shiekh Dheri, Topi, Tarakai and other localities said that need of spray increased after some dengue cases were reported in the district.

“There was need of the spray much earlier but I don’t know why the government always delays such action before the outbreak of diseases,” said Sher Ali Khan, a member of Maneri Jirga.

Similar views were expressed by residents of other areas. They said that unscheduled power loadshedding at night provided an opportunity to mosquitoes to bite them.

They said that tehsil municipal administrations (TMAs) had failed to conducted the cleanness campaign up to the expectations of the people. They alleged that they had rarely seen the sanitation staff to visit their areas.

Dr Niaz Mohammad, when contacted, said that they planned to conduct spray according to the international standard procedure only in those areas from where the dengue fever cases were reported.

He said that TMAs of Swabi, Topi, Razaar and Chota Lahor had also adopted a mechanism to conduct anti-mosquito spray in the village where they felt the danger. “They have a perfect mechanism for the spray. We also have the system and resources,” he added.

However, he made it clear that the spray could not be carried out in all areas of the district because it was also danger to the health of people. However, the people said that there was no village or locality across the district that had no mosquitoes.

POWER: The residents of Topi have said that they experience about eight-hour power loadshedding that causes great problems to them.

They alleged that Peshawar Electric Supply Company failed to provide smooth power supply to them. They said that the power supply remained suspended from 3am to 11am and even after that they could not receive smooth power supply due to unknown reasons.

KILLED: A man was killed and two were injured in two different accidents here on Thursday, said police.

Saqibullah, a resident of Mangal Chai village, was killed when he slipped during a visit to the local mountain. He was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries

Meanwhile, two people were seriously injured when a car and motorcycle collided with each other in Gabgani region.
