Crime rate rises in Swat valley

Published October 1, 2001

MINGORA, Sept 30: The police have failed to overcome the rising number of crimes in the Swat valley which is increasing the sense of insecurity in almost all the localities.

The accused charged with dacoities and theft in the FIRs have also not been held so far, making the people jittery about their safety.

Talking to journalists here on Saturday, President of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Swat district, Ali Khan recalled a number of dacoity cases which occurred in Gogdara, Manglowar, Charbagh, Kokarai, and specially in the Mingora city.

He said the police only used to arrest the innocent people in order to dupe the masses, while the actual criminals kept roaming freely.

He said the people were forced to keep a watch around their residences in the night as the police had given a free hand to the criminals.

Ali Khan said that killing of a man in front of the district courts on Saturday morning was a glaring example of the negligence of the police, saying that the people could no longer keep silence on it. He demanded of the governor, NWFP, Syed Iftikhar Hussein Shah and IG police to take prompt action in this regard.
