KARACHI: Retired Ma­jor Khwaja Safi Wasiu­ddin, son of Lt-Gen Khwaja Wasiuddin and grandson of former governor-general and prime minister of Pakistan Khwaja Nazimuddin, passed away earlier this week after prolonged illness, said a statement issued here on Friday. He was 72. He was laid to rest at the Army graveyard.

“Belonging to the distinguished Dacca Nawab family whose contribution to the Pakistan movement is widely acknowledged, Major Safi Wasiuddin was awarded the Presidential Certificate by President Gen Ziaul Haq for his commendable performance as an officer of distinction,” it said. “He leaves behind among mourners his three daughters, five grandchildren and sister Umb­ereen Mahmood-ur-Rah­man, the daughter-in-law of former chief justice of Pakistan Justice Hamood-ur-Rahman.”
