UN offers help in defusing Pakistan-India tensions

UNITED NATIONS: Expressing deep concern “at the increase in tensions between India and Pakistan”, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has asked both sides to exercise maximum restraint and offered his “good offices” to ease the crisis.

“The secretary general stresses the importance for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions. His good offices are available if accepted by both sides,” said Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN secretary general, while responding to a question at a media briefing.

Pakistan has accepted such offers by the UN chief in the past, but India has been reluctant to involve the world body in an issue that it terms a bilateral dispute.

A timely just plea by the U.N.Secretary General Mr.Antonio Guterres to both India and Pakistan.Both countries should send their Foreign Ministers to New York City for the Meeting to defuse this volatile tense situation.The Prime purpose of United Nations is to maintain Peace in the world.Pakistan and India are Members of United Nations.

The Indians only need the help of the United Nations or its Security Council when they are in trouble or losing a battle. Otherwise they have no utility for them. It is their standard norm which can be verified from history. That provides them with an opportunity to delay the solution to any problems which would go against their interests.

@Jamil Soomro, New York City, Had the world body and international community been serious to resolve the issue, UN resolution passed by the majority nation is already there to hold plebiscite in held Kashmir, but it is India who has been refusing all this time to implement it.

@PrakashG, That's the problem with you Indians, you don't want to talk/look at the problem that you have created (i.e. Occupied Kashmir) and instead point towards something that's a non-issue for India. UN in this case has offered both Indian and Pakistan a chance to defuse the farcical tension created by India.!

India has more to gain from implementing UN rulings in Kashmir. More happiness, and faster capital for example. And yes, we've read UN resolution. Nowhere it states that Kashmir is any part of India.

@rakesh, so why did India go to international court for kulbushan, and asks international community to help isolate and put pressure on Pakistan, if it doesn’t believe in outside mediation on resolving Kashmir. It can’t have it’s cake and eat it!
