ISLAMABAD: The charges against a US diplomat has been submitted to a lower court for trial on the charge of killing a motorcyclist in a traffic accident and injuring the pillion rider, sources in the police told Dawn.

However, police officers did not confirm the development and came out with contradictory statements.

The sources in the police said the challan held the diplomat responsible for the road accident and had been filed in a local court.

Besides, the Foreign Office was also informed about the development for bringing the matter into the knowledge of the US embassy.

When contacted, Police Legal Department Incharge DSP Azhar Shah said so far he had not received any challan from the Kohsar police.

The hearing of the matter has been fixed in the Islamabad High Court where the challan may be submitted, he added.

SSP Najeebur Rehman Bhugvi told Dawn that the challan had been submitted to the legal department of the police and it was their discretion to submit it to the court.

“After submission of the challan to the legal department our job is over,” he added.
