QUETTA: Seven members of a family were killed and 14 others were injured in an explosion in a house in Khuzdar district of Balochistan on Wednesday.

Explosives used in mining were being kept in the house in Naal tehsil of Khuzdar district, the explosion took place when a child accidentally set fire to the explosive material, levies sources said.

Seven were killed while 14 other including women and children were injured. Household items were reduced to ashes as the fire engulfed the entire house.

"The injured were shifted to district headquarters hospital Khuzdar for medical treatment," Acting Deputy Commissioner Khuzdar, Captain (retd) Sarmad said in a statement adding that some of the critically wounded have been referred to hospitals in Karachi.

The blast caused a great deal of panic in the neighbourhood and a large number of people rushed to the scene to help security forces rescue the victims.
