SIALKOT: The couple, who was found dead in BRB Canal on Tuesday, had been killed for honour.
Police said Muhammad Rafiq alias Ejaz and Abida Bibi contracted love marriage and were residing at Jhaalwala-Ladheywala Goraya (Gujranwala district). It was the second marriage of both of them.
According to police, the couple was shot dead by the family of Abida Bibi. Muhammad Rafiq has five children from his first wife. Abida has two daughters from her first husband and she got divorce from him.
Satrah police have registered a case under sections 109 and 302 of PPC against seven suspects Matiullah Goraya, his wife Irshad Bibi (parents of Abida), Shaukat and Rashid (her uncles) and Muhammad Ashraf and Muhammad Azam (her brothers) for allegedly killing the couple over contracting love marriage.
The case was registered on the complaint of Rafiq’s elder brother Muhamamd Nawaz.
Police said the suspects roped the couple to seats of the car, shot them dead and threw the vehicle in the canal.
According to the FIR, the double murder took place on Dec 21.
Police have handed over the bodies to their heirs after autopsy at Daska Civil Hospital. No arrests were made.
GRAFT CASES AGAINST COPS: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has registered separate cases against six policemen, including three station house officers (SHOs), besides issuing arrest warrants for two other government officials.
Gujranwala Division ACE Regional Director Rana Abdul Shakur told newsmen here on Wednesday that ACE registered cases against Gujranwala SHO Inspector Iqbal Goraya for allegedly taking Rs0.2 million bribe, Mandi Bahauddin SHO Inspector Muhammad Nawaz and Narowal SHO Inspector Rehmat Ali for receiving Rs20,000. ASI Tajjamal Sadiq Sandhu (Gujranwala district) was booked for getting Rs50,000 bribe, Narowal ASI Sarfraz Nawaz (Rs0.2m) and Hafizabad ASI Faisal Javaid for taking Rs60,000 as bribe in different cases.
The regional director said cases were registered against the officials after inquiries proved them guilty.
He said the ACE also issued arrest warrants for Inspector Qaiser Ahmed (posted to Gujrat environment department) for taking Rs10,000 bribe and Gujranwala forest guard Fiaz Ahmed for receiving Rs12,000.
