Mosque explosion injures 10 in India-held Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A grenade exploded on Thursday in a mosque in India-held Kashmir, wounding 10 people, police said, the first such incident in 14 years in the region.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast in the southern district of Shopian in the Himalayan region.

Police said they were on guard against outbursts of public anger over the incident, but were awaiting more details.

“People were coming out of the mosque after morning prayers when the blast occurred,” a police officer said.

India is tightening security nationwide ahead of celebrations this weekend to mark independence from Britain.

Attacks on mosques have been almost unknown in the valley, although at times Indian forces have laid siege to militants holed up in shrines.

Four women were killed and scores wounded when a grenade exploded in Charar-e-Sharief mosque situated in the valley in 2001.

ex RAW chief admitted using terrorists in Indian occupied Kashmir to put the blame on Kashmiri militants fighting the Indian state occupation, I wont be surprised if the same elements have been used to put the blame on freedom fighters.

India has already built a lot of infrastructure in the Jammu & Kashmir region which started contributing in India's economy. Also, keeping Kashmir in its basket will give strategic advantage to India over Pakistan as Pakistan always have to depend on India for its development in that case. So, India can and will apply all possible tactics to keep Pakistan out of this business. As far as Kashmiris are concerned it is just a matter of few years when the demography of Kashmir will be changed and India will have enough support for plebiscite.

@sana : Only solution is to make current 'Line Of Control' as permanent border. Border can not be changed by force in modern world. Moreover, India is now become powerful country- both in terms of economically & militarily. Currently, no country (or group of countries) is capable to pressurize India for any sort of forced agreement.

WASIM---Pakistan was not created on the basis of referendum in undivided India in 1947...The wishes of majority of undivided India ie Hindus were not taken into account on whether India should be divided or not...Now since Pakistan was created only on the wishes of minorities and the majority was ignored, similarly the wishes of Majority ie Kashmiri muslims will be ignored (assuming they want independence) and the Kashmir will remain with India.

@Mustafa well this statement of 1000 years is very regularly stated by ppakistani friends. But they tend to forget that the history of Indus valley ccivilization is more than 5000 year old. Hope u are also aware that the ggrand father of Mr.Jinnah were hindus. Finally do not want to comment on how ISIS treats its women captives even today ccan't even imagine what faith & belief those tortured women or the orfans born would be ffollowing be it today or 2000 year back.
