IN July vehicles owners are required to pay their motor vehcile tax. However, the experience of paying MV tax at the Islamabad Excise and Taxation Office (ETO) is nothing short of torture and humiliation.

It it unfortunate that no instruction is displayed within the office premises to guide and facilitate taxpayers while the information counter does not provide any information. The staff serving at various counters are rude, unhelpful and non-responsive.

If that was not enough, Islamabad ETO also does not have an official website which could provide taxpayers the necessary information about the process and the tax amount due.

So, as a last resort, one is at the mercy of agents camping outside the premises, who charge exorbitant amounts for providing and filling challan forms.

No wonder many taxpayers prefer to delay paying their taxes. The authorities concerned should take notice and improve this experience.
