KARACHI: Spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, Dr Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin, passed away on Friday morning at the age of 102 at his residence in South Mumbai.

"Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin, the leader of Dawoodi Bohra community, passed away on Friday at a hospital in Mumbai," said his spokesperson.

He was admitted there after he had suffered a heart attack, he said.

Dawoodi Bohra community members started gathering in different jamaat khanas in Karachi and others parts of the country as the news about his death spread.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Patron in Chief Pakistan People's Party (PPP), has condoled the death of Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin.

In a condolence message to the bereaved family, Bilawal eulogised the long-time services of Dr Burhanuddin for welfare and spiritual guidance to the Dawoodi Bohra community in the sub-continent and beyond.
