This is how we treat our legends! June 13 was Mehdi Hasan Khan Sahib’s first death anniversary. Yes, TV channels ran reports on the anniversary during their news bulletins, but sadly there were hardly any exclusive programme on one of the greatest vocalists the subcontinent ever produced. Given Khan Sahib’s stature the media should have been more heedful of the occasion and at least should have made documentaries on his life and the formidable body of work. Not to be. Sadly this is the kind of society we’ve become. We spend millions of rupees on mindless morning shows but hesitate to fork out a small amount to pay tribute to our heroes.
