KARAK: At least 20 schoolchildren suffered injuries when a speeding bus struck a school van on Indus Highway here on Saturday.

Police and local people said that students of a private school were going in a van after school time when the incident occurred near Fateh Sheri Chowk on Indus Highway. The bus fell into a ravine. The driver and his assistant escaped from the area after the incident.

The injured students were taken to the district headquarters hospital, Karak. The parents rushed to the hospital soon after the incident.

The doctors referred one of the injured students to Peshawar in precarious condition. The other injured were stated to be in stable condition.

The police impounded the bus and registered a case against the driver.
