DSP gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) along with a friend was gunned down in Shah Faisal area of the metropolis late on Saturday night, the police said.

According to the IG Police Sindh office unidentified assailants fired at DSP Syed Zulfiqar Abbas at a restaurant near Eidgah Ground in Shah Faisal locality where he was sitting with his friend identified as Shahzad, son of Ansar Ali.

The bodies were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities. The police have started investigation into the incident.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the incident of firing in Karachi in which DSP Zulfiqar Zaidi lost his life. He directed provincial government to beef up security in the provincial capital to avoid such instances.

Seeking report into the incident, the prime minister emphasised on the need of taking steps for boosting the morale of the police force as it has a key role in maintaining law and order. He reiterated that government is fully committed to restoring peace and stability in Karachi so that its citizens can lead their lives in tranquility.

Earlier in the day, a doctor was killed in city's Nazimabad area.

Maintaining law and order is not a few days jobs, Police and other agencies always have to remain alert and vigiled as this is their every day's job. They are bound to ensure peace and security of the people across the country come what may. For the last many days targeted killing is on so we can apprehend that extortion and kidnapping for money and other heinous crimes God forbid might not resurface again. We should always pray to the God to protect the people and Pakistan. Ameen

Who will restore, if any, peace and tranquility in Karachi which was very much felt and prevalent when I flew out from my beloved Pakistan in 1976 to work with US giant FLUOR in Saudi Arabia and since then I am out of Pakistan but very much regretfully pen that for quite many years human life is at great risk back home? As and when someone is killed, one condolence message, out of the lot already prepared in advance, is issued and investigation commission is formed to report to the authorities within shortest possible time but nothing beyond. Karachi once mirror of Pakistan has turned the most favorite ground for killing and very often people are killed fir no reason and rhyme.
