ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will be participating in the first Qatar International Taekwondo Open WTF G1 Official Ranking Tournament to be staged in Doha, Qatar from Friday.

Lt Col Waseem Ahmed, president of the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, in a press release issued here said the event will continue till Monday and the participation in this championship will be very beneficial for young athletes to gain exposure at international level.

He said the tournament will help in selecting team for the Asian Championship which will be held in April at Chinese Taipei.

Pakistan contingent to participate in the event includes Sadaqat Hussain and Sajjad Akbar (coaches), Junaid Riaz (54kg senior), Aamir Sohail (55kg junior), Ghulam Murtaza (63kg junior), Mohammad Shafiq (54kg senior), Akif Ali (47kg junior), Saifullah (63kg senior) and Saaim Sikandar Janjua (61kg cadet).
