KARACHI: A shopkeeper was shot dead in Orangi Town on Saturday morning in a targeted attack that the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen believed was carried out on sectarian grounds.

Syed Irfan Ali, 32, was at his photostat shop in Sector-11 near the weekly Tuesday bazaar at 10:30am when three suspects riding two motorcycles pulled up there and killed him, said Mominabad SHO Sabir Khan.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“It appeared to be a targeted killing incident,” said the police officer. He added that the victim had no known affiliation with any religious party.

A spokesperson for the MWM, however, said the deceased was their supporter and it was a ‘sectarian killing’.
