GILGIT: The election commission of Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday postponed the by-elections on GB-9, Skardu-III seat, for an indefinite period. The elections were scheduled to be held on May 9, officials said.

The officials said the decision to postpone the by-election had been conveyed to all the concerned quarters. They said the reason was closure of the road to Galtari subdivision due to snowfall.

It is pertinent to mention here that Wazir Shakil Ahmed, former minister for law and water and power, vacated the seat after he was made judge of the Chief Court of Gilgit-Baltistan.

CONTROL ROOM: The Gilgit-Baltistan police department has established a state of the art control room in the city police station to deal with emergencies in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Senior police officials said IGP Usman Zakria inaugurated the control room at a ceremony attended by police and administration officials.—Correspondent
