MANSEHRA, April 22: The upper parts of Hazara division and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continued to receive heavy downpour on Sunday that brought the mercury down.

The hilly areas and mountain peaks also received snowfall. “The temperature has been dropped during the last two days and it will come further down because more rains are expected in the region,” said an official of metrological department.

The rain, which started on Saturday, continued sporadically in Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan and Torghar districts on Sunday.

The official said that so far 30 millimetres rain was recorded in Balakot and other parts of Hazara. More rain was expected in the parts of Hazara that would further drop the temperature, he added.

He said that the temperature dropped from 14.3 Celsius to 13.3 Celsius during the last two days. The rainfall also turned weather pleasant in upper parts of Swat.

The residents of Malam Jaba, Mingora, Bahrain and other areas have started Mercury dips as rain continues in KP, Fata wearing warm clothes because of the cold weather.

In Charsadda, the heavy downpour also caused surge in the Kabul River, its tributaries and the Swat River. A large number of visitors thronged Sar Daryab, a tourist spot near Peshawar, to enjoy the pleasant weather after the heavy downpour. Rush of visitors was witnessed at food stalls in Sar Daryab on Sunday.

In Bajaur tribal region, routine life was badly disturbed due to heavy downpour that continued on the third consecutive day on Sunday.

The fresh rain spell started from Friday night continued consecutively on the third day across Bajaur Agency. The heavy rain paralysed life as electricity and telecommunication services remained suspended in most parts of the tribal region.

Three houses collapsed in Salarazi area due to heavy rain. However, no causality was reported.

Tribal farmers said that the rain would prove beneficial for the standing crops. The heavy downpour also turned the weather chilly in the tribal agency.
