ISLAMABAD: IG Police Islamabad Wajid Ali Khan Durrani was appointed inspector general of Sindh police on Wednesday.

He is replacing Fayyaz Leghari who was removed from his post on a directive of the Supreme Court after the extra-judicial killing of a youth, Sarfaraz Shah, by Rangers personnel in Karachi.

Mr Durrani, a Grade-21 officer, had assumed the charge of Islamabad police on January 24 and served in Sukkur, Dadu, Nawabshah, Karachi’s East, South and Central districts and CIA. He also held the posts of DIG Special Branch, Sindh, and DIG Traffic, Karachi.

The authorities, meanwhile, have considered the names of Waseem Kosar of Police Research Bureau, Amin Hashim, IGP Balochistan, and DIG Bani Amin for the Islamabad post.

A final decision will be made by Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani.
