KARACHI, Aug 28: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has announced that air-conditioned buses will be plied under the Urban Transport Scheme from Scouts Colony, Metroville.

Speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of city government's model park at Metroville, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, Naimatullah Khan announced that the biggest park in Karachi would be established at Gutter Baghicha while the National Park would be developed in Clifton.

He said that the city government would develop model parks in all the towns, including Lyari, Baldia, Bin Qasim and Gadap. Besides, a number of park schemes were being implemented at the town and union council levels.

He told the gathering that flood lights were being installed in various grounds for night matches. He said that the youth was led to wrong direction in the past primarily due to scarcity of jobs. However, he said that in addition to the parks and grounds being developed in each town for the youth, the city government was making efforts to generate maximum number of jobs for them.

Mentioning that thousands of people visit Safari Park daily, he said that efforts were being made to induct lion, leopard and elephant in the park.

Referring to other development projects, Naimatullah Khan said that a mono train would be operated from Sohrab Goth to Tower. He said that the train would not only facilitate a large number of people travelling daily from Sohrab Goth to Tower, but also generate thousands of jobs.

He further announced that the city government would construct a government hospital in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The nazim said that there were around 1,000 kutchi abadis in Karachi where even basic facilities were not available. Besides provision of facilities in these areas, the city government was taking steps to grant proprietary rights to their inhabitants.

Saying that the mega-city has a population of 14 million with an annual addition of nine million people, he pointed out that the city had no Master Plan for the last 57 years. As a result, he added, the city government was faced with various problems. He said that with the continuous efforts and team work, the government had succeeded in building a number of parks and playgrounds, roads and flyovers, hospitals and educational institutions in the city.

Mr Khan said that a number of dilapidated roads were constructed in 10 months.

Amidst applause, the DO Parks announced that the park being developed at Gutter Baghicha would be named after Naimatullah Khan in recognition to his services.-APP
