KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Thursday that the federal government had ignored the province in terms of major motorway projects while approving inter-district motorways for Punjab.
Addressing a press conference, he said that the federation was not undertaking any major motorway project in Sindh, which amounted to an injustice to the province and to the national economy driven by its largest city, Karachi.
He said that those who spoke against the unity of the province actually wanted a clash so that their dead politics could get new life. “The government will refrain from any such step,” he added.
The minister said that the provincial government had written to the prime minister and the federal government several times, demanding that Sindh be given its due share of water and that the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) fulfil its constitutional responsibility for equitable distribution among provinces.
He strongly condemned statements made against martyrs and urged Maulana Fazlur Rehman to withdraw his remarks, arguing that the statement had received wide coverage in Indian media and benefited the adversary.
About wheat situation, Mr Memon said that profiteers and hoarders had purchased and stored large quantities of wheat as soon as the crop arrived, leaving insufficient stocks for government procurement.
He warned others involved in hoarding to surrender their stocks to the government so that citizens could get relief. He claimed that following the release of the recovered wheat into the market, flour prices had declined by 13 per cent.
