“We pay far, far too much, billions and billions of dollars too much,” Trump has said of Nato, calling it “unfair” that the alliance is “not there” for the US despite its protection.
“But I want to say that this is a great leader; they’re lucky they have him,” he added, referring to Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte, whom he was speaking alongside at the Ankara summit.
“It’s their biggest asset.”
