THERE is a serious lack of basic facilities at the Civil Hospital in Turbat. When the poor go for a medical check-up, they are told that they should visit a private facility. This is nothing, but a money-grab. The situation is creating significant challenges for local residents who rely on this sole public-sector hospital for their healthcare.

The hospital is facing shortages of essential medical equipment, medicines and qualified staff. Diagnostic machines require a stable electricity supply to function, but, due to power outages, they remain unused.

Chemical solutions in the hospital’s laboratory, and medicines in the store are often expired. Patients are not getting timely treatment because there are not enough doctors or proper diagnostic services. Many people have to travel to faraway cities even for minor medical issues, which is both expensive and risky.

People come from far and wide to Civil Hospital seeking healthcare, but they are treated poorly. Whether it is a pregnant woman or someone critically ill, hospital staff does not practice any discrimination in turning them back. The only exception is made for people known to someone in the hospital administration. They are the only ones enjoying free medicines, supplies and treatment.

The relevant authorities should take prompt action to improve the condition at the hospital by providing sufficient medical staff, necessary equipment and medicines as well as ensuring proper maintenance.
