ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has approved policies to ensure transparency and accountability in the National Highway Authority (NHA).

Chairing a high-level meeting, the minister took strict notice of excessive expenditures under the maintenance budget and warned that any form of corruption, particularly under the guise of repair work, would not be tolerated. He instructed the NHA chairman to devise an integrated reform strategy, emphasising that while the government is striving to save public funds, their misuse is unacceptable.

To enhance institutional performance, he called for the recruitment of competent, capable, and honest professionals from the private sector.

He also stressed the urgent need to conclude pending enquiries to ensure accountability for all utilised funds.

He ordered the implementation of a strict monitoring mechanism, including on-site inspections and third-party evaluations, to strengthen checks and balances.

Immediate action was also directed regarding complaints related to the Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M-3) and concerns surrounding the Lyari Expressway.
