PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department killed two terrorists in an operation in the Tank district on Wednesday, officials said.
They said that the ‘wanted’ terrorists, Imdad and Tauqeer, were affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s Mushtaq Group, and had been involved in multiple attacks on police.
According to a statement issued by the CTD, the terrorists were gunned down during an intelligence-based operation.
It said that as soon as a CTD team reached the area, terrorists opened fire on them. The CTD personnel returned fire, and an exchange of fire continued for 40 minutes.
The statement said that a search operation was launched in the area after the firing stopped, and the bodies of two terrorists were recovered, who were later identified as Imdad and Tauqeer — affiliates of the banned TTP’s Mushtaq Group. The raiding party recovered two Kalashnikovs, along with six magazines and bullets, from the terrorists.
The statement said the terrorists were involved in the targeted killing of a policeman. They were also involved in an attack on a judges’ convoy in Lakki Marwat in 2024, in which two police personnel lost their lives.
Meanwhile, CTD carried out another IBO in the Alam Gudar area of Bara tehsil in Khyber district, and recovered a cache of weapons.
In a statement, the CTD said the recovered arms included 14 mortar shells, 80 rounds (12.7) of DShK (commonly known as Dushka), two rocket launchers, six hand grenades, and an anti-tank shell.
