ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reassured safety and security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

The PM said this while meeting Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong at the Prime Minister’s House.

“He (PM) also underscored Pakistan’s resolve to provide a secure and conducive environment for Chinese personnel, investments, and institutions in Pakistan,” an official press release quoted the prime minister as saying during a meeting with the Chinese ambassador at the PM House.

The meeting took place at a day after Pakistan repulsed attacks from Afghanistan and made significant damage to military installations of the neighbouring country.

During the meeting, the premier reaffirmed the enduring all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China, characterised by deep mutual trust, ironclad friendship, and shared commitment to mutual support on core interests.

PM Shehbaz conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and the Chinese leadership and people, particularly on the joyous occasion of the Chinese New Year.

He expressed appreciation for China’s consistent and steadfast support to Pakistan on economic, security, and developmental fronts, particularly through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which remains a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative and a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation.

The prime minister also stressed the need to enhance cooperation in agriculture, IT and mining & minerals.
