KARACHI: The Government have decided to set up the Pakistan Central Jute Committee, it was officially announced … on Friday [Aug 11]. It will be composed of 23 representatives of the Governments, business and the growers. The Committee which will undertake the development of jute produce, will be financed by the Central Government through annual grants. It will also advise the Government of East Pakistan on matters relating to the golden fiber. …

The Committee will undertake agricultural technological and economic research, improvement of crop forecasting, statistics and marketing, production, testing and distribution of improved seed and will make enquiries and recommendations, relating to banking and transport facilities and transport routes.

[Meanwhile, news agencies from Stras­bourg report,] Winston Churchill appealed today [Aug 11] … for a unified European Army including West German troops to stand shoulder to shoulder with the United States and Canadian forces in defence of Western Europe. The wartime British Prime Minister called on America and Britain to send large forces to the Continent at once.
