CHINIOT: Two brothers, who were suspected dacoits, were allegedly killed in the firing by their accomplices during an “encounter” with a team of the Crime Control Department (CCD) on Sunday night.
According to CCD, a team had set up a picket near the Odan Wali bridge on Chiniot-Chak Jhumra Road when they signaled four men riding two motorcycles to stop for checking. On seeing the police, the armed suspects opened fire. The CCD personnel returned fire.
When the guns went silent from the suspects’ side, the police party searched the area, findingtwo of the suspects lying critically injured in the bushes along the road.
The CCD claimed they were injured in the firing by their accomplices. The police called the Rescue 1122 ambulance to shift the injured suspects to the hospital. However, when the rescuers reached the spot, both suspects had already succumbed to their bullet wounds. The deceased were later identified as Jehangir Ahmad and Nazir Ahmad, both sons of Ghulam Mustafa, a resident of Chak No 103-JB.
Chiniot CCD police have registered the FIR and started a search operation to arrest their fleeing accomplices.
ARRESTED: Police arrested three fraudsters for minting money by cheating innocent people on the pretext of conducting a ‘Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) survey’ at Chak No 147 JB.
As per the police, three suspects, Usman of Mathrooma village, Kashif of Rajoa Chowk andJaved of Tibba Kamangran, went to the village and met with Lumberdar Inam Ullah Kalyar.
The suspects told Kalyar that they were from the Chiniot BISP office and wanted to conduct a survey to register deserving women for inclusion in the cash assistance programme.
The suspects then made announcements from the local mosque, inviting deserving women to the outhouse of Kalyar for getting registered with the programme against payment of a certain amount. However, when the matter was brought to the attention of the Chiniot BISP office in charge Ahmad Yar Wains, he called the police and got the suspects arrested for defrauding people.
The police registered an FIR against the suspects under sections 419, 420 of the PPC.
