DOHA: Pakistani cueists Asjad Iqbal advanced to the round-of-16 of the IBSF World Snooker Championship qualifiers campaign, while compatriots Mohammad Asif and Ahsan Ramzan suffered setbacks on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Asjad, demonstrated his skills, overcoming Syria’s Mohammad Soufi 4-1 [73(64)-35, 44-67, 67-15, 58-48, 67-09] in the round-of-32 match.

Earlier, Muhammad Asif, the 42-year-old seasoned veteran began strongly, defeating Afghanistan’s Ali Ahmad Yousufi 4-0 [62-51, 62-55, 71-07, 67-21] in the round-of-64.

However, Asif — twice amateur world snooker champion — campaign ended in the next round, losing 4-2 [83-24, 70(70)-0, 0-97(50), 19-82(82), 82-55, 117-10] to Jia Jun Ong of Singapore.

Ahsan Ramzan, Pakistan’s 19-year-old 2022 World Amateur Champion, bowed out in the round-of-32, losing 4-1 [(93(62)-0, 71-45, 0-84(84), 63-52, 83-0)] to Germany’s Simon Lichtenberg.

The championship, being held at the Qatar’s capital, will conclude on Nov 9.
