KARACHI, March 22: A seminar ‘Rashdi brothers’ contribution to history and literature’ to mark the death anniversary of Pir Ali Muhammad Rashdi and Pir Hussamuddin Rashdi will be held at a hotel here on March 25. According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the seminar will be presided over by noted scholar and historian M.H. Panhwar. The vice-chancellors of the Sindh and Karachi universities will be chief guests.

Pir Ali Muhammad Rashdi (1905-1987) was a writer, journalist, politician, parliamentarian and diplomat. He was Pakistan’s ambassador to the Philippines (1957-1961) and China (1961-62). He had been a minister in Sindh and also central minister for information and broadcasting, the statement added.

Pir Hussamuddin Rashdi (1911-1982) was a historian and a scholar par excellence. He authored, edited and compiled 43 books in Persian, Sindh and Urdu on subjects of the history of Sindh, Iran and Central Asia.

He was given Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan for his literary achievements, honorary doctorate (posthumous) by the university of Sindh and several other similar awards.
