LAKKI MARWAT: Committees would be formed to patrol the streets of Lakki Marwat city during night-time to curb robberies and thefts at shops and houses.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here on Monday night attended by elders, traders and local government representatives.
Former provincial minister Anwar Kamal’s son Nasir Kamal Marwat Advocate had called the meeting to discuss the surge in robbery incidents in the urban locality and chalk out a strategy in consultation with stakeholders to control the incidence.
Lakki tehsil council chairman Shafqatullah Khan Khoidadkhel, neighbourhood council chairmen Eng Latifullah Khan and Shahab Khan, all shopkeepers’ union president Haji Fazal Rahim and a social activist Waqar Khan were among those in attendance.
“The robbery and theft incidence will not stop until we stand against bandits and criminals,” said Nasir Kamal. “It is our responsibility to provide protection of life and property to citizens with support of police and other government institutions,” he maintained.
Other elders asked the city dwellers to pinpoint anti-social elements so police could initiate prompt action against.
POLICE TRANSFERS: Lakki Marwat district police officer Mohammad Ashfaq Khan reshuffled four subordinate officials, including SHOs, on Tuesday to intensify action against criminal gangs, an official said.
He said through an office order, Sub-Inspector Ebad Wazir, who was awaiting posting at the police lines, was posted SHO of Dadiwala police station. He will replace Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anwar Khattak, who has been made SHO of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station of Darra Pezu town.
Sub-Inspector Nizam Khan, who was serving as additional SHO in Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station of Naurang town, would assume charge against the vacant post of additional SHO in Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station.
ASI Noor Aslam Khan was transferred from Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station and posted in the Saddar police station.
ENROLMENT: Over 80 students were admitted to different classes in Government Higher Secondary School No 3, Lakki city, during the ongoing enrolment drive, Gul Rehman, a teacher, said on Tuesday.
He said under the supervision of principal Waris Khan, teachers and other staffers were actively engaged in enrolling out-of-school children and dropouts in the school. He said the school’s management also held meetings with the parent-teacher council to make the drive a success.
“Of the enrolled students, 23 have come from private schools,” the teacher said, adding over 100 more students would be enrolled during the campaign.
FATEHA: Jamaat-i-Islami emir Sirajul Haq on Tuesday visited Tajbikhel Betanni area of Lakki to offer condolences to the family of late federal religious affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor, who died in a road accident in Islamabad on Saturday.
JI provincial chief Mohammad Ibrahim Khan and others also accompanied him.
Mr Haq expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and offered Fateha for the departed soul.
