PESHAWAR: Mian Mahmud Ali Kasuri, Central Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, today [Aug 28] stressed the supremacy of the majority party and asked the minority provinces to abide by the decisions of the Centre. He was speaking at a public meeting held here last night [Aug 27] …

He said it was not proper for a minority party to demand representation in the Centre while in the provincial sphere it may be opposing the policies of the Centre. He added that the “Centre by virtue of the majority of the ruling party was all powerful and had absolute control” over the provinces too. He said that “Central government had a right to intervene in provincial matters which tend to create disruption and chaos… ”. — Staff correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Islamabad,] Mr Abdul Qayyum, Minister for Interior … in the National Assembly said during the July 1972 language disturbances in Sind … 42 persons were killed … 319 injured, including 130 policemen. … Asked whether the situation in Sind is now completely calm, the Minister said … certain rival groups were preparing for a show-down… . As a result of this, 80 persons have been arrested… .
