BAJAUR: Unidentified gunmen killed a son of a tribal elder of Mamond tribe here on Tuesday night, the police and residents said.

They said the victim identified as Zubir Khan, 14, along with some relatives was sitting near his house in Kas Karewand area when identified attackers opened fire on them.

The residents said Zubir, who was a grade nine student in a local private school, was critically wounded in the attack and died while being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar.

The family members of elder, Malik Daftar Khan tried to catch hold of the attackers, but they managed to flee.

The cause of the killing could not be ascertained immediately.

Later, the victim was laid to rest in his native area following his funeral prayers, which were attended by people from different walks of life.

The police said that they had launched an investigation into the incident after registering a case against the unknown assailants.
